Bahlsen Crumblys Review

Just returned from holiday to find that I'm mentioned in the September Newsletter! Yay! Delighted that the Yoda Mug Story had such a happy and successful ending...
You might be interested to know that whilst in Corfu we managed to pick up a couple of packets of the chocolate Bahlsen Crumbly's! Woo! They are fantastic - well done to the little supermarket in Kassiopi for stocking them; we were most excited to find them on the shelf! Pity they didn't have the other two flavours, but it's still a good introduction to the species!
I managed to bring a packet back for the delectation of my colleagues - although we did have to pack it in the suitcase to prevent in-flight biscuit cravings getting the better of us... I am pleased to report that the chaps in the office also heartily approved (although of course their recent rapid consumption of the weird cranberry cookies from America does suggest that they are not too choosy in the biscuit department!) and the Crumbly's disappeared pretty quickly. Looking forward to finding the other two flavours soon!

My daughter has subscribed to your newsletter for some time now and I hear that you have quite a following among students at King Alfred's University, Winchester.
I'm writing to say that I just received my first newsletter and what a pleasure it was. There nestling among the unsolicited emails urging me to purchase viagra, drastic weight loss pills and life changing recipes was "a nice cup of tea and sit down .com." I welcomed it. I will think of you as I sit with a nice cup of tea and a sandwich today (not that I spurn the occasional hob nob or M&S chocolate chip cookie- is that advertising or am I among friends ?)
Anyway I look forward to many more newsletters and sharings on the tea and biccy front.
I was wondering if you, wifey or readers remembered Thin Wines (or Whines, or possibly something else). I was chatting to my brother, Adrian, the other day about them, as they were his faves for dunking in tea back in the 70's. Now he and his daughters have to resort to dunking Jacobs Cream Crackers, which doesn't sound particularly appetising, but, if tried, is surprisingly
not too disgusting.
|Hi Nicey, do you remember me, Martin in Thailand? Congrats on all the media exposure, richly deserved. When last I wrote, Marks and Sparks were selling McVities standards here - digestives, rich teas etc. at 85 baht/packet. Excuse me, but in Thailand that can buy enough rice to feed a family of 5 for a week. Seriously. There was a local biscuit somewhat reminiscent of Nice called "Homey", which stood in on occasion, but I became excited when a new biscuit appeared, Fun-O. The name's a bit of a giveaway, so I just had to tell the story to the attached pic.|
Oreo mutates into Custard Cream - amazing biscuit evolution in Thailand!
1. The original, Oreo Nabiscoensis, familiar to biscuiteers worldwide, made under licence by PT Nabisco Foods in Indonesia, selling at the Thai consumer-friendly price of 5 baht for 3. Don't worry, the funny writing just says "Oreo."
2. Oreo Knock-off-oensis, "Cream-O", made by "Jack 'n Jill" aka URC (Thailand) in Samut Sakhon near Bangkok, cleverly selling at 5 baht for 4. 2a. (not shown) an intermediate species of Cream-O, in the same size packet, but with chocolate cream filling.
3. An evolutionary breakthrough! Someone at URC decides to put a light shortbread mixture in the pseudo-Oreo moulds, but still with chocolate cream filling. The result is called "Fun-O." Now we are getting 6 biscuits for 5 baht.
4. Amazing convergent evolution! Light shortbread with custard cream filling. It might be showing signs of its Oreo ancestry, but taste-wise, this "Fun-O" is a bona fide custard cream! Still at 6 for 5 baht too.
