Dear Nicey
I was somewhat dismayed on reading your Jaffa Judgement article in that I never got to see the Limited Edition McVities Berry Blast Jaffa Cakes which featured a mixture of raspberry and cherry. I live in the channel islands and we are often left out in the cold with regards new things, sometimes taking months before they might filter through to our shores, if indeed we get to see them at all. Seeing as how I'm quite partial to all things raspberry I feel they would have gone down a treat. Does anybody still have some, or does anyone carry sufficient persuasive skills so as to encourage the great McV to re-introduce such marvels?

Yes I think Jaffa Cakes have settled back down again. Actually I'm not sure, but the new flavours were certainly around for a few months. They be due a another fiddling about with in another month or two. You can often find Raspberry style Jaffa cakes in Lidl's which emanate from Germany, and certainly their Jaffa cakes are well worth a go. I don't know if that expands your options in any way.
Last year we were close enough to the Channel Islands whilst in Brittany to pick BBC Radio Jersey. We had the great privilege of listening to almost a days phone in devoted to issue of seagulls and what they get up to. |

I thought you might like to see my Yorkshireman, tea-drinking husband on holiday in Cyprus! He even found some nice biccies, made in Nicosia, called Digestives, but they were almost an exact replacement for Royal Scots which went out of production as you know. When we go back again this year he's thinking of getting a case sent over to England! Tea and biccies whilst lazing in the pool - what more could you want?

Hi Nicey, thanks for your Fairings review, and on the subject of them disappearing, I too had to hunt high and low for them whilst on holiday. In addition, I was dismayed to find out the cylindrical tin is no longer available. On a brighter note I found this news.

Hi Nicey,
Just got back from Cornwall, and I'm sorry to report that your "missing in action" section may soon have to include the Cornish Fairing
An intensive search in Truro this morning discovered only one shop (a patisserie) selling the biscuits, and the proprietor said that they weren't going to be available any more as Furniss were in receivership.
On the other hand, the Camborne and Redruth Packet has potentially better news
One for NCOTAASD HQ to keep an eye on...
Hope your summer holiday was at least as good as mine, and with fewer blisters !

Thanks for the on the spot reporting on important Cornish biscuit matters. Lets hope they can sort it out.
We had a lovely time in France, no blisters although it may take some time to erase the psychological scaring of having to play mini-golf in torrential rain.
Here is a rousing picture of some cakes with France in the background, taken on the same day as the mini-golf incident.
