Nicey,
More a complaint about the site really than anything to do with tea or biscuits, but why does my favourite site take so long to type and invariably get spelt wrong? I always manage to miss out one of the 'a's of 'tea and' or put in an extra 'd' or something. Couldn't you have made it something a little easier, I don't know, just 'nicecupoftea' or something? I know it's a bit late for changes seeing how popular your lovely site is now, but I have to complain about something.
Catherine Ford
PS Help! There are only custard creams left in my house! And there are only about 4 of them! But I had a lovely cup of tea with my breakfast this morning.

Nicey replies: You could always bookmark us. If not type 'fig roll' into Google that should do the trick. Also 'Nicecupoftea' had been taken by cybersquatting vermin. |

Listen, Nicey,
As a nice old gentleman who is not allowed to eat biscuits (or cookies), I can comment only on a TV advertisement for Oreo screened in recent times in fairest Melbourne. (That's in Australia which, unlike New Zealand, opens on Saturday.)
A "cute" little boy is sitting with his biscuit and a mug of milk. A beautiful dog watches him. The little boy constantly waves the biscuit at the dog, which eagerly awaits being fed. We go through the "First you dip it.." (or whatever they tell you to do) routine, and the boy then eats the whole biscuit. He then invites the dog to drink the milk.
I protest! First of all, on the grounds of cruelty to dogs, with the continual nasty teasing which will probably lead to a need for the dog to receive counselling. Secondly, on the implication that it is fun to starve pets. Thirdly, on the fact that drinking from the same mug is unhygienic. Who know what bacteria the poor dog will pick up and what diseases it will suffer, after drinking from that kid's mug?
It really will not do.
Yours etc.,
A canophile

There is a more dangerous way of making undrpant toast. You can cut aluminium foil into the 'inverted pant' shape. Place it on the toast (perhaps with the tiniest piece of marge) and then PUT IT UNDER THE GRILL. I will restate this. A GRILL.
This WILL NOT WORK IF YOU USE A TOASTER. The reason for this is not anything to do with the toast, but more to do with the fact it will kill your toaster, if not yourself.
|
Nicey replies: Ideally they should make a toaster which would put the Y front graphic on for you, that would be handy for all fans of under-pant cookery. |

Dear Nicey and fellow biscuiteers,
Does anyone remember a really old Wagon Wheel commercial with the tagline "It's so big you gotta grin to get it in"?
No one I've spoken to seems to have heard of it, but I'm sure I can't be hallucinating, I can sing the tune and everything!
This would be going back at least 20 years, but it's not the sort of slogan that's easily forgotten...

Nicey replies: Sorry, not ringing any bells with me. |

Dear Nicey,
Partly inspired by your fantastic website and a passing interest in football but mostly due to our obsession with biscuits myself and a few of my work colleagues have launched The Biscuit Cup. We have selected 32 British biscuits, put their names in a biscuit tin and drew them out in pairs as follows:
Match 1. Pink Wafer v Jammy Dodgers
Match 2. Tunnocks Tea Cakes v McVities Jaspers
Match 3. Cadburys Boasters v Penguins
Match 4. Gariballdi v Cadburys Chocolate Animals
Match 5. Abbey Crunch v Digestives
Match 6. Breakaway v Malted Milk
Match 7. Fruit Shortcake v Chocolate Digestive
Match 8. Rich Tea v Jacobs Club
Match 9. Mint Viscount v Fig Rolls
Match 10. Custard Creams v Bourbons
Match 11. Shortbread biscuits v Iced Party Rings
Match 12. Jaffa Cakes v Maryland Chocolate Chip Cookies
Match 13. Chocolate Hob Nobs v Lincoln
Match 14. Caramel Wafers v Nice
Match 15. Cream Crunch v Hob Nobs
Match 16. Chocolate Fingers v Ginger Nuts
There are some great matches here although I fear for the lowly Lincoln going up against the mighty Chocolate Hob Nob.
We have set up a panel to decide on the winners on the basis of taste, dunkability and biscuit design. Please advise if we are missing an important criteria. The winners of each match go into the next round involving tasting and dunking tests.
I?ll keep you posted on the results. |
Nicey replies: Fantastic,
This is going to be a an exciting event with some close matches like 10 and 15, and some walkovers like 8 and 13. Are you going to buy new packs for each round? Thats a lot of biscuits.
I would add style/ originality, and performance to your criteria, otherwise you might be faced with a 3rd round full of chocolate biscuits. A good performing biscuit should keep you coming back for more. Whilst biscuits like the Malted Milk have a classic styling that doesn't date.
Good luck and keep us up to date with the results. |
