What a nice web site you've done there. As I live in Paris it offers a welcome glimpse of bakelite and allotments, the smell of new Beanos in the paper shop, and everything else that make Great Britain possibly the most Great British of places on the face of the planet.
I have a confession, and I would gratefully appreciate your respecting my anonimity, a request you'll understand given the perverse nature of my sin.
I like eating digestive biscuits with a bit of sharp cheddar cheese. Nothing wrong with that, you say? How about *chocolate* digestives? Both milk and plain? I have to make sure there's no-one else in the house when I do this, as it disgusts and saddens my family.
I would find it of great comfort if there were others who, if not sharing my prediliction, could at least extend some sympathy along with the tea? God made me what I am.

||HI. Ok, I realise that you do not rate the Nice biscuit very highly ;-) but I love them. Well, actually I absolutely adore the half chocolate coated variety. But, horrors, I have not been able to get any for the last 12 months at least. Nobody seems to sell them anymore. Why? Ordinary Nice biscuits are available but not my very favourite chocolate ones. Worse still there are plenty of the absolutely awful chocolate rich tea variety and chocolate malted milk biscuits about. For heaven's sake they do not need any embellishment like chocolate!!|
So, does anybody know of anywhere in Staffordshire - preferable near Cannock/Wolverhampton as I'm disabled and unable to travel very far - who stocks chocolate Nice biscuits? I am getting desperate :-)))

Lu Mikado Review
I'm a newcomer to your site (great concept, by the way) and I noticed this article about Mikado biscuits. Like you, I also wondered initially what the Gibbons they were until my France vacation in early February, where one of my friends purchased them out of sheer boredom and I then had the privilege to indulge myself in the taste of one.
Yes, they are indeed Japanese - I guessed them before trial just by looking at the idiosyncratic design of the packaging and also the sound of the name. They are truly delicious, there's an adequate amount in each pack and above all, they include chocolate that actually tastes of chocolate. What more can a snacker ask for?
Do you know if the Prince biscuit made by LU can be got in the UK? They?re round chocolate sandwich types. They come in cylindrical 330gm packets with a picture of some smiling kid prince in gumboots and a superman cape running healthily in front of a picture of the contents. He?s also embossed on each biscuit (not running, but looking like Henry VIII junior).Gout Chocolate, Partenaire Energie, it says, Cereales et lait.(sorry no accents available on this keyboard) But in spite of that I seek them out when in France as they are not too sweet, dunk well, and are very Moorish. And the chocolate filling seems to stay firm even in the heat of summer. They were on offer in triple packs in the Super-U this month but my wife wouldn?t allow me to get this as she?s gone onto a low carbohydrate diet. So I?m now almost through my souvenir of a delicious holiday.
There appear to be several varieties of them in French supermarkets: One has the filling divided- half is something whiteish, and there?s a strawberry one which doesn?t appeal at all. It wasn?t even in the triple special offer so can?t be all that popular.
Are they available in the UK? Or can anyone recommend a not-too-sweet chocolate alternative?
|Nicey replies: I know the biscuits you are referring to, we saw some the other week in an Auchan in Boulogne. They seem to be representative of a whole continental approach to round chocolate cream sandwich biscuits, we have had something very similar from Spain called a 'Principito'.
I've never seen Lu biscuits in any of the big stores, so I think you are probably best off working on a plan to convince your Wife of your legitimate right to by dodgy euro biccies for your next France trip. I find 'Oh they are are for the biscuit tin at work' seems to work well.
Firstly, what a lovely site. The idea of measuring things in "bourbons" and "kilobourbons" made me laugh out loud :)
Anyway, I have an important question; one that I think only you can answer.
*drum roll* How do you pronounce "Nice" when referring to that particular type of biscuit. On your site, you seem to be of the opinion it is "Nice" as in "not nasty"; with an "eye" sound in the middle, as you often mention how they are not actually "Nice" at all.
However, I have heard many people pronounce it as if it rhymed with "fleece"; like the town "Nice", in France.
Can you please clear up this matter as it has been bothering me for many years. I often find all conversation during a nice cup of tea and a sit down comes to a complete halt as soon as the "Nice" biscuits come out, and descends into argument.
