Tim Tam vs Penguin Review |
Dear Mr Nicey,
I have been priveledged to have brought the Tim Tam to the US, where I can attest that the natives are just as able in the Tim Tam 'Slam' as Antipodeans or Britons (who I have also introduced this many-talented biscuit to). Observations of said Britons indicate that the Penguin would be far inferior to the Tim Tam when used as a straw, but either would be quite satisfactory when eaten separately.
This may be incidental to your site, but Tim Tams can also be used as straws for a variety of alcoholic liquids, port being a favourite.
Have fun,

Nicey, you are a gentleman and no mistake to ascribe so many virtues to the Tim Tam, however we New Zealanders, living as we do in constant biscuit imperialism directed at us from the other side of the Tasman sea, know all about the shortcomings of Australian products which are continually foisted on to our shelves to replace superior local and British products. The Australians are even extending their usual cultural rapine to claim that fine original New Zealand products, such as the Anzac biscuit, the Pavlova and Hokey-Pokey ice cream are their own! We are quite content for them to claim Rolf Harris, but wish them to own up to their greedy colonisation of talent and inspiration. However, it was nice to see your tongue firmly in your cheek when you claimed to be aware of modest Australians. Cheers, Barry Newman |

I am outraged by the sickeningly bias result of your biscuit test it is obvious that just becase you are a pommy loving basterd you gave any compliment at all to McVities (McSpities) crappy imitation of the legendary arnotts Tim-Tam. Being a former Australian now living in Manchester I have tasted both the Tim-Tam and Penguin on many occations and I could say under oath that the only thing remotely good is the cheap (and nasty) price of the imposer.
From Ben McElduff.
p.s. There are many other varieties of tim-tam such as caremel, double chocolate and white chocolate and all of these are completely superior to any type of penguin. |

Mr Nicey, you deserve a Henry Kissinger Award (or something) for your tactful and diplomatic handling of the Penguin vs Tim Tam War. We nice, quiet, modest old gentlemen down here in The Land Of The Tim Tam are grateful. Well, I mean. Never mind the Wars of the Roses -- you've probably averted a dreadful revenge attack in the War of the Ashes.
Coward!

Mr Nicey,
I am interested to know if you have Tim Tams in Britan. I don't, in any way, want to detract from Sandie Cleland's insights about the 'Kit Kat Straw', indeed I applaud them generously. However I thought you might like to know of a similar phenomenon in Australian biscuit tradition called the 'Tim Tam Slam'. Irritatingly basketbally term but a singlularly worthwhile persuit which involves biting diametrically opposite corners off the rectangular, choc-covered Tim Tam and sucking hot beverages through them. Public opinion is divided on whether this practice constitues a violation of the TT which is regarded as the luxury biscuit for rich and poor alike and has semi totem status here.
Sweet.
