McVities Milk Chocolate Digestive Review |
Nicey
I just want to say that i think about 65million packets of digestives could be sold everyday because it does not say wheter or not it is sold to cash and carry's, corner shops, supermarkets etc. All kinds of shops in total may sell less than 65million packets of chocolate biscuits everyday but cash and carry's buy a hell of a lot of biscuits all at once(about 1000-2000 for a quite small cash and carry) also some days shops have a good day and may sell a lot and they may have bad days and not sell so much, but you do not think about all of the biscuits that shops have to return because they are damaged and all of the biscuits that go out of date on shop shelves around the country I guess that the co. just puts those down as being sold. Also think about the people who do not eat all of the biscuits in a packet because they may be damaged crumbly or broken etc. I know my family eats about a packet of digestives in about 3 to 4 days so i do wonder if the figures are accurate or just made up to impress Mc Vities bosses by employees.

Nicey replies: Good for you, and your accounting for the missing 23,660 million packets of chocolate digestives McVites should really be selling a year. |

McVities Milk Chocolate Digestive Review |
Dear nicey and thewife,
I've just had a really horrible meeting, the client was horrible to me and the biscuits were, once again, all those horrible fancy foreign ones (I like a nice chocolate digestive or Jammie Dodger). Anyway, after a good sit down and a cry in the cab on the way home, I then found your website. Hurrah! I don't feel depressed about my horrible meeting anymore, now I know that there are biscuit fanciers out there and the world is not a horrible place only full of horrible clients and nasty posh biscuits. Thank you for cheering me up so thoroughly. I'm going to have a nice cup of tea and a sit down now and I'll be right as rain. Lovely.

Nicey replies: Hoorah! for you, proper biscuits are the way forward as any truly switched on company knows. Next time take a digital picture of their biscuit plate send it to us and we can all have a good laugh, Yay! |

Dear Nicey
I found your site while browsing on the web and I thought you might be able to help me.
I am a training journalist, and I'm trying to write an article on the British Biscuit Industry.
Do you have any interesting facts or contacts that would be useful? |
Nicey replies: Sorry Lisa but I generally make it all up myself, any biscuit facts I have are gleaned from packets or other peoples web sites, or my own recollect (frequently wrong). The best statistics I have typically involve how long it would take to reach the moon by putting biscuits end to end. We dream of the day when you'll be able to travel through space in tunnels made from composite layers of Penguins and Tunnocks wafers.
As recently raised in this same forum, McVities claim on their site that they sell 65 million packets of Chocolate biscuits a day, in the UK. You might want to start there, as it means we eat 1.12 packets of chocolate biscuits day in day out. |

Nicey,
Interesting digestive facts from Martin. I have a conspiracy theory on this. McVities claim of how many of their chocolate digestives are "eaten" each day is purely speculation, I know for a fact that the company are unaware of my intake of the biscuit. Therefore they must be basing their figures on how many packets are "bought" each day. It's my theory that some of the top dogs at McVities are buying huge quantities of their own product (for which they no doubt claim some sort of profit share anyway) in order to make us think the chocolate digestive is more popular than it is. Well, it's either that or they are force feeding them to a load of captive fat blokes in the McVities factory....
Jim.
PS. Nice grail. |

Following my request for information about the Barmouth biscuit I have been doing a bit of research. I thought that the United Biscuits web site might throw some light on the matter as they seem to dominate the biscuit world. Sadly, they were no use whatsoever but something caught my eye. They claim that "Over 65 million packets of McVitie's Chocolate Digestives are eaten in the UK everyday" - can this be true? That means we are each consuming more than a packet each a day. Much as I like the chocolate digestive, I'm nowhere near this level - who is eating my share? Also, this figure does not include non-McVitie's brands. So many questions. |
Nicey replies: Yep the interweb is fairly ropey for finding out about biscuits, which is one of the reasons we started up NiceCupOfTeaAndASitDown. Our calculations agree with yours on the chocolate digestives, we would all need to be eating a relentless 1.12 packets daily, and that's on top of our other biscuit intake. |
